Ski Guiding (Ski Hosting)

Although we were both English & Austrian qualified ski instructors and have several snow qualifications we are not allowed to instruct on the ski slopes, unless we are actually working for the ski school (for which you must have booked and paid). We are both very experienced skiers and know the local ski resorts, etc well – so please ask us for any advice, or information.

If you are a beginner / low intermediate (i.e. predominately in a snow plough) you will need to have ski lessons with a ski school. We tend to use the ski school at Zell am See (based at the Areitbahn ski station) and have found them to be very efficient and helpful with previous guests. We strongly advise you to book ski lessons before you arrive – contact Franz Oberlader: skischule@zellamsee.at – please mention Chalet Anna Uttendorf, as this should entitle you to a discount, or sbt3@sbg.at (Bruck ski school). Please state that you wish your lessons to be at the Areitbahn.

If you are an intermediate skier (i.e. able to ski basic parallel turns, confident on blue runs, can ski red runs, and can ski at the pace of the rest of the group) we are happy on most days to guide you round the mountain, or advise you on different resorts and runs. This maybe particularly helpful at Saalbach Hinterglemm and Kitzbuhel, but we are also very happy for you to ski without us and will not be offended if you say you would like to do this. We are also able to give you some ski tips, or use our video camera to help you improve your skiing.

For groups with children we again are happy to provide ski guiding, providing that they are accompanied by a parent and of a suitable standard (see above). This may only be possible when we don’t have other adult guests, as they tend to have different needs. At all times, parents are responsible for their children.

Whilst we are with you on the mountain we cannot take any responsibility for your safety, ski equipment, or that you are adequately prepared. Please note: you must have adequate ski insurance.

We can easily access a number of different ski resorts from our Chalet and we are very keen to provide you with a range of experiences. We do, however, ultimately decide on the departure times from the Chalet & ski slopes, and which resort we will be visiting on any given day. We will obviously attempt to meet your wishes, but we must take into account weather conditions and other factors.

Depending on your flight times it may be possible for you to ski on our transfer day (Sunday). On your departure day bedrooms will need to be cleared by 10 a.m., but the tea kitchen and boot room will be available for storing your luggage, getting changed and making a cup of tea (the remainder of the Chalet will need to be got ready for incoming guests). It maybe necessary for you to use the public transport system (which is very efficient) for getting to and returning from the ski slopes, as other guests maybe being collected from the airport. If you wish to ski on your arrival day we will drop you at Zell am See, where you can change, and continue to the Chalet with your luggage (about 10 minutes away). It maybe necessary for you to use the public transport system from Zell am See to the Chalet, as airport transfers maybe being made. No guiding is available on our transfer day (Sunday).

Ski Instructor Courses

In October 2009 we both qualified as Austrian ski instructors. Are you also interested in training to be a ski instructor here in Austria? Would you like to work as a ski instructor? The Austrian Anwärter ski instrctors course is much cheaper than B.A.S.I. or the Canadian system (www.sbssv.at). If attending this 10 day course we can offer top quaility, English speaking accommodation for discerning guests, daily transfers to and from the Kaprun Youth Hostel (where the course is based, assistance with the ski instructor file (German), assistance and helpful hints to help you pass the course (although we do not guarantee that you will pass the course!). These courses are in July/August, October, and November/December - skiing is on the local Kitzsteinhorn glacier (www.kitzsteinhorn.at). For information on the ten day courses (approximate price €450 including lift pass). See:

Christmas Markets

From the third Thursday in November you can visit the Advent Christmas Markets (www.christkindlmarkt.co.at) in Salzburg. We offer weekend breaks (flying out Saturday morning, visit the market, return to Chalet Anna for dinner, overnight accommodation and breakfast, and return to Salzburg airport for the Sunday flight). Flights are not included - please contact us for details.
